Walking, walking Talking all to my self Wondering if I died Would my baby love somebody else Broke down and crying I believe I'm born to lose My clothes are worn out I got holes all through my shoes I'm tired and hungry Walking for many days Wondering if my baby Gonna quit her hateful ways Walking across the country Trying for to claim a stake But my baby wants Every dime I make

I'm Alabama bound If the train don't stop Nor turn around I'm Alabama bound I like to fuss and fight Get sloppy drunk On a bottle of wine And walk the streets at night The rooster crowed To the little red hen Said 'meet me down in the old barn yard 'bout half past ten' The rooster crowed The hen jumped on a fence He said 'I can tell by your deep blue eyes you gotta be convinced' The rooster crowed The hen jumped down She said 'If you want to be my man you got to run me down' The preacher preached He raised up his hand All the ladies way back in the amen corner saying 'Go on man.' The preacher preached All the ladies moaned He said 'If you want this collection I got you gotta follow me home' The preacher preached Laid his bible down Said 'Sorry ladies I sold the church I'm Alabama bound'

Dinah 02:26
Dinah Is there anyone finer In the state of Carolina If you know, show her to me Dinah With them Dixie eyes blazing I love to sit and star gaze in The eyes of my Dinah Lee Every night I wake with fright All because my Dinah might Change her mind about me Dinah If you wander to China I'd hop an ocean liner To be with my Dinah Lee

Pallet 03:40
Make me down a pallet on your floor Make me down a pallet soft and low Make it wide and your good man won't go Sometimes I'm broke and I ain't got a dime Sometimes I'm living high on chicken and wine I'm dreaming about this Alabama woman again She loves just like a river bends So 18 wheeler let this rider ride I don't care if we're driving through the night I was up this morning and saw a heavenly beam But it was just a policeman shining a flashlight on me The police make trouble everywhere I go When you get to heaven ain't no police there ya know Make me down a pallet on your floor Make it wide and your good man won't go Make me down a pallet on your floor

I'm all around this water tank I'm waiting for a train One thousand miles away from Sleeping out in the rain I walked up to a brakeman Gonna give him a line of talk He said 'If you got money son I'll see that you don't walk' I haven't got me a nickle Not a penny can I show 'Get off you old railroad bum And he slammed the boxcar door' He dropped me off in Texas A state I dearly love With the wide open spaces all around me I got the moon I got the stars above No body seems to want me Or to lend me a helping hand I'm on my way from Frisco Heading back to Dixie land My pocket book is empty But my heart is full of pain One thousand miles away from home Waiting for a train

Give me land Lots of land Under starry skies above Don't fence me in Let me ride Through the wide Open country that I love Don't fence me in Let me be by myself In the evening breeze Listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees Send me off forever But I ask you please Don't fence me in Just turn me loose Let me straddle my own saddle Underneath the western skies On my cayuse Let me wander over yonder Till I see the mountain rise I want to ride to the ridge Where the west commences Gaze at the moon until I loose my senses I can't stand hobbles and I can't stand fences Don't fence me in
8.
Freight Train Freight Train Running so fast Please don't tell em What train I'm on Then they'll know What route I've gone When I'm dead And in my grave No more good times For me I crave Lay them stones At my head and feet Tell the world I've gone to sleep When I'm dead Bury me deep Way down on Chestnut St. So I can hear that old number 9 As she goes rolling by
9.
I got the whiskey You got the gin Let's both drink Honey get drunk again 'Hey whiskey' 'What'd you say gin?' Let's both drink Honey get drunk again It don't make no difference How drunk you might be So long as you don't hold back Honey from loving me I got the washboard You got the tub Let's put em together Rub rub rub 'Hey washboard' 'What'd you say tub?' Let's put em together Rub rub rub
10.
Well you've heard about the Candyman He'll stick a stick of candy in your hand But I don't want no peppermint swirls I'm gonna see the Cottoncandy Girl She's down in the shooting gallery Shooting down the tin cans Ting ting ting And if you get all five She'll give you the cottoncandy prize Blue and pink and good size round The sweetest thing in this town Light and free with an easy sway Cottoncandy girl don't go away Look up over yonder See the moons a silver dollar Gonna bring it on down Break it into quarters So if you can get away Even just for a spell I can the the 50 cents For the carousel I don't need to see No trapeze flying around No elephant that get on one foot Raise up it's trunk And blow 'Sweet Georgia Brown' Cause I got a sweet tooth For the sweet things you do I got a sweet tooth for that cotton candy

about

This is a country blues and folk jazz record. I learned these songs over my many years bumming around America. The chord structures, melodic passages, lyrical content, and history of the songs and their composers are the touchstone of my creativity and the foundation of my artistic lexicon. They are the constellations; fixed and quiet, forgettable and unyielding, the pillars of the sky that make navigable a brambled world. It’s an honor to play these songs.

about

Anthony Sutton

Born with the restlessness of the songs he sings, Sutton left his rural Indiana hometown to hitchhike and wander the country at a young age. Anthony has worked primarily as a street musician as many of his musical idols have. To overcome the noise of city sidewalks Sutton’s playing and singing is loud, crisp, and controlled. He has a song and story for every mile. ... more
